🎓 Choosing the Right Style
Different situations need different writing styles! You wouldn't write a text to your friend the same way you'd write a letter to the headteacher.
📝 Formal Style
When to use: Letters to officials, school reports, job applications, essays
✓ DO use:
- Full sentences
- Proper punctuation
- "I am" not "I'm"
- Standard English
- Polite language
✗ DON'T use:
- Contractions (won't, can't)
- Slang
- Exclamation marks!!!
- Text speak (lol, brb)
- Emojis 😊
Example: "I am writing to apply for the position advertised. I believe I would be suitable because I have experience in customer service."
💬 Informal Style
When to use: Texts, emails to friends, personal blogs, diary entries
✓ CAN use:
- Contractions (I'm, it's)
- Casual language
- Shorter sentences
- Exclamation marks!
- Friendly tone
Still avoid:
- Too much text speak
- Being rude
- Ignoring punctuation completely
Example: "Hey! I'm applying for that job we saw. Think I'd be good at it 'cause I've done customer service stuff before."
