📦 Volume of 3D Shapes

KS3 Foundation Mathematics

🎓 What is Volume?

Volume = The amount of space inside a 3D shape

Think: How many small cubes could you fit inside?

🧊 Volume of a CUBE

A cube has all sides the same length.

Formula:

Volume = side × side × side
V = s³

Example: Cube with side 3cm

Step 1: Multiply side × side × side
V = 3 × 3 × 3 = 27 cm³

📦 Volume of a CUBOID

A cuboid has length, width, and height.

Formula:

Volume = length × width × height
V = l × w × h

Example: Cuboid 5cm × 3cm × 4cm

Step 1: Multiply l × w × h
V = 5 × 3 × 4 = 60 cm³

💡 Remember:

  • Volume is in cubic units (cm³, m³)
  • For a cube: multiply the side by itself 3 times
  • For a cuboid: multiply all 3 measurements
